Learning for all ages

Education

Punjabi school, Sikh musicology, the library, workshops, school visits, open days and camps.

Education is written into the Gurdwara's purpose as a charity: Punjabi for children, Kirtan and Raag for those who want to learn, a library for anyone, and workshops, talks and camps through the year.

Punjabi school

Our Punjabi school teaches children to read, write and speak Punjabi, and gives them a grounding in Sikh history, traditions and the teachings of the Gurus. Classes run from September to July each year, starting at 5.45pm, and cost £25 per child, per term.

Sikh musicology

Sikh music, Kirtan sung in Raag, is a melodic expression of devotion and meditation: the hymns of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji sung to the Raags the Gurus set them in. Alongside the weekly Kirtan programmes in the Darbar Hall, we hold workshops and seminars on the history of Sikh music and the Raag system, open to all levels of experience. Email gen.sec@khalsajatha.com to ask about the next session.

Library

The Gurdwara library holds Sikh scriptures, histories of the Sikh community, the philosophical works of the Gurus and later scholars, contemporary writing, and books in Punjabi, English and other languages. There is a reading area, help with research from the librarian, and some digital resources.

The library is open to everyone in the community. Email library@khalsajatha.com to arrange a visit.

Workshops and talks

We run sessions on Sikh history and heritage, spirituality and meditation, community engagement, interfaith dialogue, contemporary issues, and health and wellbeing. All are open to the public and free to attend. Dates are listed on the calendar.

School visits and open days

Schools are welcome for a guided tour, a workshop and Langar; visits last about two hours. On open days, we open the Gurdwara to the wider community. Book a school visit or plan a visit.

Sikh camps

Our camps bring young people together for workshops on Sikh philosophy and history, time for reflection, and plenty of games and activities. The last summer camp ran over three days in July 2025 and cost £10 per child. Email gen.sec@khalsajatha.com to ask about the next one.
